They are actually pretty easy, with one exception, and they taste great. \u00a0All they take is potatoes, sausage, eggs, some seasonings, and cheese. \u00a0And a Dutch oven! \u00a0They would be perfect for an addition to a dinner that you've cooked on the grill, or even as breakfast when you are camping. \u00a0They are kind of like <a title=\"Dutch Oven Mountain Man Hash Video\" href=\"http:\/\/www.outdoorcookingmagic.com\/dutch-oven-mountain-man-hash-video\/\">Dutch Oven Mountain Man Hash<\/a>, but without the hash. \u00a0They are:<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Dutch Oven Potato Boats<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The first thing to do is get some coals going for your Dutch oven.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-4888 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/www.outdoorcookingmagic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/IMG_3718-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Get Charcoal Going\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.outdoorcookingmagic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/IMG_3718-300x200.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.outdoorcookingmagic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/IMG_3718-1024x682.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>While that is happening, get your potatoes ready. \u00a0Use 6-8 good size potatoes. \u00a0Some of mine where too small. \u00a0Make sure they'll all fit in the bottom of your Dutch oven. \u00a0Cook the potatoes. \u00a0You can cook these in the dutch oven, or cheat, like I did, and cook them in the microwave. \u00a0Normally I would try and cook everything outdoors (it always tastes better when you do that \ud83d\ude42 ) but I was running out of light, so in the interest in time, I used the microwave.<\/p>\n<p>When the potatoes are done, take a pound of sausage and start it cooking in your Dutch oven, stirring, and breaking it up so that it is somewhat crumbly.<\/p>\n<p>While that is happening, take each one of your potatoes and slice them lengthwise in half. \u00a0 Take each half and cut 1\/4\" of the bottom off.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.outdoorcookingmagic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Cut-Bottom-Off-Potatoes.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4901\" src=\"http:\/\/www.outdoorcookingmagic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Cut-Bottom-Off-Potatoes.jpg\" alt=\"Cut Bottom Off Potatoes\" width=\"291\" height=\"148\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now make hash cuts in the potatoes so that you can remove most of the white potato flesh. \u00a0Don't cut all the way through the potato or it will be\u00a0difficult to make the boats.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-4902\" src=\"http:\/\/www.outdoorcookingmagic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Cutting-Hashes-in-Potatoes.jpg\" alt=\"Cutting Hashes in Potatoes\" width=\"239\" height=\"155\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Take a spoon and spoon out most of flesh. \u00a0The leftover parts of the potatoes are the hulls of the boats.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.outdoorcookingmagic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/IMG_4451.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-4892 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/www.outdoorcookingmagic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/IMG_4451-e1398170591968-300x185.jpg\" alt=\"Scooped Out Potato Flesh\" width=\"300\" height=\"185\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.outdoorcookingmagic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/IMG_4451-e1398170591968-300x185.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.outdoorcookingmagic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/IMG_4451-e1398170591968-1024x631.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>When the sausage is all cooked, add the potato flesh to the Dutch oven, mix well, and let it cook together, even browning if you can get that to happen. \u00a0Add some salt and pepper to taste.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-4893\" src=\"http:\/\/www.outdoorcookingmagic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/IMG_4458-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"Cook Potatoes with Sausage\" width=\"454\" height=\"302\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.outdoorcookingmagic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/IMG_4458-1024x682.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.outdoorcookingmagic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/IMG_4458-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 454px) 100vw, 454px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When the potato-sausage mixture is done (warm all the way through), remove Dutch oven. \u00a0Put some coals on the Dutch oven lid to get is started heating up.<\/p>\n<p>Start spooning the potato-sausage mixture into the potato boats. \u00a0Don't fill them completely full. \u00a0In fact, I'd suggest filling them just half full. \u00a0If your boats are a little weak, you might want to put them into the Dutch oven before you start filling them, to reduce the handling needed.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-4894\" src=\"http:\/\/www.outdoorcookingmagic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/IMG_4469-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"Fill Potato Boats Half Way\" width=\"518\" height=\"345\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.outdoorcookingmagic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/IMG_4469-1024x682.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.outdoorcookingmagic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/IMG_4469-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 518px) 100vw, 518px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Take 5-6 eggs, mix well, and then pour a little bit of the egg mixture into each of the boats. \u00a0If you run out, beat another egg and continue. \u00a0Spoon more of the potato-sausage mixture onto each of the boats, heaping it up.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, sprinkle cheese of the top of each boat.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-4896\" src=\"http:\/\/www.outdoorcookingmagic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/IMG_4473-1024x575.jpg\" alt=\"Sprinkle Cheese on the Top of Each Potato Boat\" width=\"491\" height=\"276\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.outdoorcookingmagic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/IMG_4473-1024x575.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.outdoorcookingmagic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/IMG_4473-300x168.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 491px) 100vw, 491px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Put the Dutch oven back on the coals and put the lid\u00a0back on. \u00a0The heat from the coals on the lid should melt the cheese and the overall heat cook the eggs.<\/p>\n<p>Let it cook until the cheese is melted and the eggs are done, probably around 20-30 minutes.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.outdoorcookingmagic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/IMG_44861.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 525px) 100vw, 525px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Delicious!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You could substitute bacon for the sausage. \u00a0You could also spice things up by adding different things to the potato-sausage mixture:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>diced tomatoes<\/li>\n<li>green chilis<\/li>\n<li>cheese<\/li>\n<li>mushrooms<\/li>\n<li>minced garlic<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I hope
