{"id":2716,"date":"2010-11-11T21:38:55","date_gmt":"2010-11-12T04:38:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.outdoorcookingmagic.com\/?p=2716"},"modified":"2014-06-30T21:28:24","modified_gmt":"2014-07-01T04:28:24","slug":"dutch-oven-apple-recipes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.outdoorcookingmagic.com\/dutch-oven-apple-recipes\/","title":{"rendered":"Dutch Oven Apple Recipes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><div style=\"float:right;margin:3px\"><script type=\"text\/javascript\"src=\"http:\/\/ap.lijit.com\/www\/delivery\/fpi.js?z=262584&u=outdoorcook&width=300&height=250\"><\/script><\/div>Desserts are easy to cook in a <a title=\"5 Reasons to Buy a Lodge Logic 8 Quart Dutch Oven\" href=\"http:\/\/www.outdoorcookingmagic.com\/lodge-logic-8-quart-dutch-oven\/\">Dutch oven<\/a> and an apple cobbler is a popular dessert to cook.\u00a0 It's easy to do, makes a perfect dessert for camping out, and will give your meal a delicious ending.\u00a0 There are lots of Dutch oven apple cobbler recipes out there, but here are two of my favorites, along with a pie and fritters.\u00a0 I hope you enjoy them.<\/p>\n<h3>Dutch Oven Apple Caramel Cobbler<\/h3>\n<p><em>8-10 large granny smith apples; peeled, cored and sliced<\/em><br \/>\n<em> 2 T. lemon juice<\/em><br \/>\n<em> 2\/3 cup sugar<\/em><br \/>\n<em> 1\/3 Cup flour<\/em><br \/>\n<em> 1 T ground cinnamon<\/em><br \/>\n<em> 3\/4 tsp ground nutmeg<\/em><br \/>\n<em> 1\/4 tsp ground cloves<\/em><br \/>\n<em> 3\/4 tsp salt<\/em><br \/>\n<em> 1 (12 oz.) jar caramel sauce<\/em><br \/>\n<em> 2 cups brown sugar<\/em><br \/>\n<em> 2 cups flour<\/em><br \/>\n<em> 1 1\/2 cup instant oatmeal<\/em><br \/>\n<em> 1\/2 cup chopped walnuts<\/em><br \/>\n<em> 1 cup melted butter<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Add apples and lemon juice to a buttered Dutch oven and stir to coat. In a separate dish combine sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and salt and mix.\u00a0 Pour the dry ingredient mix over the apples and stir until the apples are well coated. Pour the caramel sauce over the top.<\/p>\n<p>In a separate bowl combine the brown sugar, flour, oatmeal, and walnuts and stir. Use a fork to mix in the melted butter to form coarse crumbs. Spread this topping over apples.\u00a0 Cover the Dutch oven and bake using 10-12 briquettes on the bottom and 16-18 briquettes on top for 60 minutes.<\/p>\n<h3>Dutch Oven Apple Cobbler Deluxe<\/h3>\n<h4>Apple Cobber Filling<\/h4>\n<p><em>8 cups apples, thinly sliced<\/em><br \/>\n<em> 2 cups flour<\/em><br \/>\n<em> 1 cup dried currants or raisins<\/em><br \/>\n<em> 1 cup sugar<\/em><br \/>\n<em> 1 tsp cinnamon<\/em><br \/>\n<em> 2 tsp baking powder<\/em><br \/>\n<em> 1 \u00bc cup coarsely chopped pecans<\/em><\/p>\n<h4>Apple Cobbler Topping<\/h4>\n<p><em>\u00bd tsp salt<\/em><br \/>\n<em> 2 cups sugar<\/em><br \/>\n<em> 2 eggs, well beaten<\/em><br \/>\n<em> 1 cup evaporated milk<\/em><br \/>\n<em> \u00bd cup butter, melted<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Place the apples in a buttered Dutch oven. Sprinkle raisins over the apples. Separately, combine sugar, cinnamon, and 1 cup of the pecans and stir to mix. Sprinkle this mixture over the top of the apples.<\/p>\n<p>Sift together the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Separately mix together eggs, evaporated milk and melted butter. Add the liquid ingredients to the dry mixture and mix until smooth. Pour the batter over the apples and then sprinkle with the remaining pecans.\u00a0 Cover the oven and bake for 45 to 60 minutes using 8-10 briquettes on the bottom and 14-16 briquettes on the top until the topping is golden brown.<\/p>\n<p>Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.<\/p>\n<h3>Dutch Oven Apple Crumb Pie<\/h3>\n<p><em>3 cups peeled, cored, and diced apples<\/em><br \/>\n<em> 1 cup white sugar<\/em><br \/>\n<em> 2 cups brown sugar<\/em><br \/>\n<em> 1 cup flour<\/em><br \/>\n<em> 1 stick [1\/2 cup] margarine, melted<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Place the apples in a Dutch oven and pour white sugar over the top. Let stand 15 minutes. Mix together the brown sugar, flour, and melted margarine. Pour over the apples and bake until golden brown, about 30-45 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>from Debbie<\/p>\n<h3>Dutch Oven Apple Fritters<\/h3>\n<p><em>1 egg<\/em><br \/>\n<em> \u00bc tsp salt<\/em><br \/>\n<em> 1 tsp baking powder<\/em><br \/>\n<em> \u00bd cup milk<\/em><br \/>\n<em> \u00be cup flour<\/em><br \/>\n<em> 1 cup powdered sugar<\/em><br \/>\n<em> 6 apples sliced<\/em><br \/>\n<em> cooking oil<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Combine the egg, salt, baking powder, milk and flour to make a batter. Put 1\" of vegetable oil in Dutch oven and heat until hot. Dip sliced apples into the batter and deep fry in the oil.
