{"id":261,"date":"2009-01-23T17:19:12","date_gmt":"2009-01-24T00:19:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.outdoorcookingmagic.com\/?p=261"},"modified":"2014-06-30T21:40:50","modified_gmt":"2014-07-01T04:40:50","slug":"cooking-baked-apples","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.outdoorcookingmagic.com\/cooking-baked-apples\/","title":{"rendered":"Cooking Baked Apples"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><div style=\"float:right;margin:3px\"><script type=\"text\/javascript\"src=\"http:\/\/ap.lijit.com\/www\/delivery\/fpi.js?z=262584&u=outdoorcook&width=300&height=250\"><\/script><\/div>Baked apples are a fun, easy dessert to cook in the fire when you're camping.\u00a0 The basic idea is to core of the center of the apple, fill the center with a filling, wrap the whole thing in foil, and cook it in the fire.<\/p>\n<p>To core an apple, I take a paring knife and, from the top, cut around the core of the apple, but not all the way to the bottom.\u00a0 Then take a spoon, and use it to remove the core that you just cut around.\u00a0 It helps if you don't break through to the bottom of the apple.\u00a0 If possible, leave the bottom of the apple intact.\u00a0 Also be sure to save a portion of the top of the core that you cut out.\u00a0 This will be used to keep the filling from leaking out of the apple while you are cooking it.<\/p>\n<p>After you remove the apple core, fill the center of the apple with your favorite filling.\u00a0 I often use cinnamon and sugar, but there are many other possibilities.\u00a0 You might like to try brown sugar, red hots, marshmallows, nuts, raisins, caramel, or anything else that you might be able to imagine.\u00a0 After filling the center of the apple what you're filling, put the top of the core back on.\u00a0 Now wrap the apple in heavy duty aluminum foil.<\/p>\n<p>After the apple is all ready to go, put it in the coals of your fire.\u00a0 It may take 45 to 60 minutes to cook the apple.\u00a0 You might also try cooking the apples in a Dutch oven.\u00a0 The heat may be a bit easier to regulate, since the apples are not in direct contact with the coals.<\/p>\n<p>After the apple is done them, remove from the fire opening alone foil and enjoy a delicious, hot, baked apple!<\/p>\n<p>Enjoy,<br \/>\n<div class=\"signature\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.outdoorcookingmagic.com\/images\/scottsig.png\" alt=\"Scott\" height=\"35\" width=\"86\" \/><br \/><\/div><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Baked apples are a fun, easy dessert to cook in the fire when you&#8217;re camping.\u00a0 The basic idea is to core of the center of the apple, fill the center with a filling, wrap the whole thing in foil, and cook it in the fire.
